Tandy Corporation: News Release

RS 88-042 December 15, 1987

RADIO SHACK ANNOUNCES AVAILABILITY OF 286 EXPRESS ACCELERATOR CARD

Radio Shack, a division of Tandy Corporation and a leading retailer of
personal computers and computer products, has announced the availability of
the 286 EXPRESS accelerator card for the Tandy 1000-SX and the original Tandy
1000 personal computers.

The 286 EXPRESS, developed by PC Technologies, Inc., increases the
performance of the 8088-based 1000-SX and 1000 from 200 to 600 percent --
boosting these computers into a speed class comparable to an 8 megahertz (MHz)
80286-based computer.

With the 286 EXPRESS, users will be able to increase their
productivity by running spreadsheets, word processing, desktop publishing,
graphics, database searches, windowing and other applications two to six times
faster.

"The availability of the 286 EXPRESS card for these computers
represents Tandy's commitment to improving technology and, whenever possible,
extending those benefits to our existing customer base," said John V. Roach,
president, chairman and chief executive officer of Tandy Corporation.

"This product is an excellent value for those users who wish to extend
their productivity without forfeiting their investment in their favorite Tandy
PC," Roach added.

        The 286 EXPRESS is a half-slot, 80286 accelerator card running at 7.2
MHz. The card features 8 kilobytes (Kb) of cache memory, an optional 80287
math coprocessor and full direct memory access (DMA) capability.

Users may select either 80286 or 8088 processing modes and enable or
disable cache memory from the keyboard without restarting the computer.

The 286 EXPRESS is also compatible with the PC-XT software and
hardware including Enhanced Graphics Adapter (EGA), Expanded Memory
Specification (EMS), Enhanced Expanded Memory Specification (EEMS) and Local
Area Network (LAN) boards.

The 286 EXPRESS accelerator card won the 1986 American Federation of
Information Processing Societies (AFIPS)/FORTUNE magazine Hardware Product-of-
the-Year Merit Award.

The accelerator card is available at more than 7,000 Radio Shack
Computer Centers, Radio Shack Plus Computer Centers, Radio Shack stores and
participating dealers nationwide. Suggested retail price of the 286 EXPRESS
accelerator card (Catalog number 25-1035) is $399.95.
