About 2 months into being on gemini. The wrapup is quite amazing:
Sure, there's the occasional check for station and what's happening, but unless I am directly involved in a conversation, the information "flood" is 2 posts per day or something. It eliminates the need to check geminispace more than twice, even if I include spacewalk, antenna and flounder.
This has made me slow tremendously. Free time I spend writing this log (that no one reads, but hey, when I watch a twitch stream or YT video no one notices either), another anonymous log, on the IRC, or pondering about whether it's a good idea to replace my Surface Go (that I need for doing real world related things that won't run on a minimal archlinux) with some old hardware or something. Ultimately this is fun. More fun than stressing around to watch something and all that.
What it also made me, is having lost interest in news. Sure the COVID status regarding whether and where I need to wear a mask is annoying to miss. Apart from that, nothing that happens around the globe seems to matter. In a way I feel that reading up on the past month's events would be enough. I may need to look into this. A monthly news wrapup/digest. That'd be amazing really. Hell, even weekly is enough, if it's compact but allows me to dig into a topic I _want_ to read.
Geminispace has been a blessing for me. Just like Dark Souls made me change my view on the endless stream of new video games. It has made me appreciate staying with a title longer and still take joy out of it. Just like painting miniatures and playing Infinity has made me appreciate local gaming communities and hobbies that you can do with your hands instead of mouse and keyboard.
It's great to be here. Sometimes I wish it was easier to connect to people. Then again, everyone has lives and a different reason to be here. Finding friends and such to communicate via e-mail is probably not the most prominent reason for people to join this space. But you know how to reach me anyhow!
