back at it

My gemini server died a wee while ago. Back at it now!

I've continued to bathe in games studies stuff over the last few weeks. I am starting to noodle on a project of sorts, but not 100% certain of all its parts...not yet.

The basic body to it is that a lot of games studies critical theory is founded in thinkers like Johan Huizinga and other folks who spent a lot of time and energy thinking about Play over Games -- a result of this is that a lot of games theory tries to bridge the gap between play and games. What if maybe we took games as foundational? What if games weren't *merely* an outgrowth of play? What do things look like then?

All noodles. No sauce. Not yet at least.

Elsewise summer has continued to chug along. Work has, I'll be honest, been straight up miserable lately which got me thinking about jumping ship, but that seems even worse, so, here I stay (or there?) for the time being.

I continue to play with forth, namely RetroForth and have been reading a heap about assembly stuff. I *think* things are starting to click, maybe. As is usual for me, I should probably stop reading and start trying to write some code. But, reading is more fun for the most part...also my personal computer is starting to shutter and sputter and pray for sweet death, so using it for much more than teeny tiny scripts is getting exhausting (for it more than for me).

Summer weather has been a treat here. I've done a lot of gardening and had a gigantic haul of zucchini, most of which has become either zucchini bread or waffles. The weather has been on my mind a lot -- I am still swinging wildly from feeling like *maybe* things are not all 100% doom and gloom and then being totally and completely certain that the planet's atmosphere will be venusian by years end.

I was introduced to the term "pre-TSD" as a way of thinking about climate anxiety. It resonates.
