Many years ago I bought a record player and started my own little record collection. I fell in love with handling, cleaning, and playing records from the very beginning. I grew up in the back-end of tapes and meat of the CD eras so records were new to me.
I also really enjoyed looking at the art of the record sleeves and lyric sheets. I still buy records from time to time, however, I've also started buying CDs and tapes too.
I got the same joy from the art and handling of both CDs and tapes, so I started looking out for them at estate sales and even at a local record shop. I was able to find a nice collection of classic tapes and even found a really nice cassette deck on Kajiji. Now I have a record player, cassette deck, and 6-CD changer connected to a receiver and too nice, classic speakers.
With the receiver (which is unfortunately on the fritz at the moment), I can all my different devices easily and switch rather seamlessly between all three devices.
I still find it hilarious that I now have Fleetwood Mac's Rumours album on vinyl, tape, and CD. I even have the classic yellow Sony Walkman!
I hope to continue growing my little collection. Nothing beats hearing the little pops of a record, or the whirring of a rewinding tape. Maybe I'm making a lot out of nothing, but little things like that provide me with a different level of musical enjoyment. And who knows, maybe one day I'll actually cancel my Spotify subscription. But until then, I'll enjoy what I've got whenever I can.
