~~ 2021-12-06T12:28:49+01:00 A very annoying Slack fact: when somebody mentions my username, I get this red counter and also other notifications, so that I go and check the messages. The very same thing happens when somebody mentions @here @all or a @group that I'm member of. This is ridiculous. Because this latter case is just a much weaker signal than my actual user name being mentioned. Would also depend on the channel. Some channels that I care about, @here is a strong signal. A group of two people is quite strong also. For email, you have Sieve, or various rules that you could apply to divert certain things away from your Inbox (or the place you get notified about). I have a "daily" folder where I collect emails that are important, but not require immediate attention. I might check that folder intraday, multiple times, doesn't matter, it's mine, I do whatever I want with it. Point is, it's my choice, I can differentiate. Now, I get that email has all these problems of authentication (proof of origin), the spam problem, etc. The problem is proprietary protocols, not open enough, so that I can build on top of them, have my own rules of notification.
