Record labels disrespect old music videos

published on 06-03-2023 19:37:54

Imagine a world, where everyone's listening to music, you can find anything on YouTube, and... a world where huge record labels can't get their video aspect ratios *just* right. Yep, that's the world we live in. I've lined up a few examples I encountered while collecting videos for projects.

Robin S - Show Me Love

To be fair, this one *might* be a technical error. It's stretched to 720x480 (instead of the usual 640x480 pixels for 4:3 video). Coincidence? I think not. This resolution is used for many recording devices (including the ones that were probably used to digitize this video).

CC Catch - Cause You Are Young

This is pretty standard, the labels just crop the 4:3 video into 16:9, upload it to YouTube, watch the view count grow. (Labels love growing numbers!)

Bad Boys Blue - You're A Woman

This is what record labels subject their videos to. Cropping, censoring, stabilizing, you name it. This is just atrocious - no video should ever be treated *this* poorly. Heck, there's even a watermark! And it's stabilized aswell!

Remember! Next time you watch a perfectly fine music video on YouTube, admire the aspect ratio :)
