Browsing the Geminispace using the Lagrange client on both desktop and Android feels like living in an alternate cyberpunk timeline: everything looks like a minimal Corp. homepage, a fixer jobs board, or a hacking group manifesto. π«π

For example, here is what my capsule looked like a little over a year ago! gemini://kennedy.gemi.dev/archive/cached?url=gemini%3a%2f%2fgemi.dev%2f&t=637817435463972450&raw=False

I used all the content from previous crawls by my search engine Kennedy to construct a searchable archive! It's just like the Internet Archive's Wayback machine, but for Gemini. 2 million+ URLs/versions, going back to Jan 2022. Example: gemini://kennedy.gemi.dev/archive/cached?url=gemini%3a%2f%2fdrewdevault.com%2f&t=637898933801779424&raw=False You can enter and exact URL, or just search for part of a URL, like searching for a domain name gemini://kennedy.gemi.dev/

Ohy, who's crawler is abusing TLGS? I'm getting constant requests hitting the search API. It's not a big problem due to the low volume. And sicne I log nothing I don't know who is doint it. But you are generating a lot of errors. ,

jsreed5.org will be down intermittently over the next few days: I self-host the capsule and we are preparing to move. I apologize for the inconvenience!

Cool! I just discovered that someone's used my Esperanto speech synthesiser (https://parol.martinrue.com) to play the role of an Esperanto robot in an audio book. It's always a delight when people use stuff you've built. π

Have been spending a bit of time trying out DWM. Not sure if I'll stick with it long-term yet but I've learned a few KSH and OpenBSD things getting a statusbar script put together. Just need to add battery charge level and current IP/network now to be on par with my old i3 statusbar config.

There should be a word for that awesome moment when you have a coding problem like "I know what I need to achieve, but I'm not sure about these three things in my way..." and some deep part of your brain pipes up and is like "you seem like a nice guy, I'm going to help you out."

The Ubuntu font has been growing on me lately. I guess I just find it really readable. I packaged it as a Lagrange font pack and put it up on my capsule if anybody else wants it.

Due to an attempt at enabling trim on the m.2 ssd in RPoD, my gopher and web servers were down for over a week while I was out of town. I have now disabled the fstrim.timer service. Nothing was lost, and it is back up. π€¦ββοΈ

My family every time I tell them to restart the computer to fix a wierd software issue: Why does that work? My explaination: Computer software is held together with the equivalent of ducktape, bubblegum, hopes and dreams. sometimes one of those gives out and restarting re-applies them.

TIL: words such as "i18n", "a16z", "K8s" and "a11y" are officially called numeronyms. Or n8s, if you like.

Has there ever been a discussion surrounding a file format for books that works with Gemini? Like epub but containing gemtext is my idea. If no one has ever brought this up I might write a post on the idea.

I have a few Gemini projects in the works that I'm super excited about and can't wait to share. Gemini is a great platform for reading, is my only tease.

The four stages of developer grief: 1. Not sure how to solve this one so I'll just wing it. 2. Oh wait, if I do this, oh yeah, and that... nice. 3. I should make this into an open source lib for others. 4. One day I'll find time to solve that problem!
