Dear Email Sender,

I hope this message finds you well. I wanted to take the time to explain my preferences when it comes to receiving emails. Firstly, I have a strong preference for plain text emails over HTML ones. I find that HTML emails can be distracting and can often lead to formatting issues and I love the timeless feel of plain text. To me, receiving an email is much like receiving a personal letter via postal mail. I would appreciate the privacy that a letter in an envelope can provide, but unfortunately in today's world, I cannot publicly share my personal address for safety reasons.

As a deaf person with limited hearing who uses a hearing aid, I prefer textual communication to phone or video communication since I do not know sign language. This makes email an ideal way for us to communicate and my preferred mode of communication. Additionally, as someone who grew up with computers, my handwriting is not the neatest or easiest to read.

The asynchronous nature of emails allow me to reflect and respond at my own pace without feeling rushed to provide an immediate response. This allows me to reflect more deeply and provide a concise reply.

I love to receive emails about shared common interests with the sender, such as technology, especially the Linux operating system and its myriad of free software packages. I also enjoy discussing computer security, encryption, and privacy technologies.

When writing to me, please make sure your emails are well thought out and don't leave open-ended responses. If your email leaves a lasting impression on me, I often save PDF copies of sentimental emails before removing them from my inbox, as I try to adhere to the "inbox zero" mindset so a well-written and concise email would greatly increase the likelihood of me responding.

Please avoid sending emails that are simply a single sentence with no thought, rambling and incoherent nonsense, or emails that are too open-ended and ambiguous, as these types of emails often result in anxiety and confusion about what the sender wishes me to reply with.

If you have the knowledge and capability to use GnuPG encryption, I would prefer to receive encrypted emails for the privacy and security of our exchange. If you would prefer a real-time exchange, I prefer Signal or Telegram for private end-to-end encrypted messages. If anonymity is required, please feel free to send an encrypted message using a temporary email service with information on how best we can virtually meet to coordinate a time and more secure method of communication.

Thank you for taking the time to read this message and I look forward to our future email exchanges.

Best regards,

Casey Richins
