A Look At Berserk's Prologue Adaptation

With the passing of legendary author Kentaro Miura, an acquaintance of mine had invited me to an online watch party over on CyTube, to watch the 1997 Berserk Anime. This anime is only aan adaptation of the manga's prologue, intended to get new people interested in the series. As someone who hadn't a single piece of knowledge regarding Berserk beforehand (aside from knowing who Guts is), it certainly did its job.

The anime truly does an amazing job at world building. In fact, it actually does it a little *too* well. So well in fact, that you forget you are only watching the backstory to the manga. I had expected (due to this anime) that Berserk would be about a magical fantasy hero and his friends in "The Band Of The Black Hawks" as they call themselves, but it turns out that the main story is actually an incredibly brutal and sad bloodbath.

As someone who usually only watches shows with loveable characters and interesting stories, I realised when watching Berserk that I would love to have an anime which takes place in that medieval fantasy style without being a jarringly unfunny isekai. Perhaps I can find similar shows now that I know not everything needs to have cute girls in it?
