The Research Assistant Third Class chuckled in his corner. The supervisor called him out, "What is it that amuses you so, young one?" The assistant managed a coherent answer: "Madam! I was studying these fail2ban instructions. They seem to indicate the beginnings of the Butlerian Jihad in Gemini Space. It's amazing how convoluted the ancient infrastructure was. Did they do this on purpose?" The superintendend was bored already. "Go ask the Head Archaeo-Librarian at the Net Vault, I'm sure you'll get your answer there." gemini://transjovian.org/gemini/page/fail2ban

I use Debian on the server and trust the maintainers implicitly. Perhaps fail2ban doesnt follow the latest industry practices – but it definitely works on my servers (I use it to throttle access to my web servers). · 1 year ago

I have not taken the time to fully understand the configuration of fail2ban. I use fail2ban on a couple devices. I ran across some information several months ago about fail2ban not getting updated with security best practices that caused me to look to see what other options are available. I found "Crowdsec" but have spent even less time looking at that. Just curious if you have seen anything similar or if you feel confident with fail2ban. · 1 year ago

The Archaeo-Librarian nodded. "Yeah, if you're interested in examples of this, I could show you something. Or better yet, bring me some samples of your archive logs and I'll help you set it up. These things are convoluted all right, but they do work." I blinked. · 1 year ago
