<h2>Butterfield Canyon</h2>
<dl>
<dt>Description</dt>
<dd>There is no 4-wheeling to speak of; a determined car could make it
up. (Update 2000-ish: Crap, they paved it.) But the view makes it worthwhile. From the top, you can see
for miles in all directions, and even look down into the copper mine.
Pros: Amazing view -- can see Toole, Great Salt Lake, downtown,
copper mine, point of the mountain, Utah Lake, West Mountain, and more.
Cons: Too many people & ATVs.

<dd>2 hours off the main roads, plus whatever time on the top.</dd>

<dd>Dirt road, potential hikes along the way. Closed in the winter.</dd>

<h2>Paria Canyon</h2>

<dd>A few miles of dir road to get to parking area; hiking is several hours
to all day.</dd>
<dt>Directions</dt>
<dd>The entrance is in southern Utah, but the canyons themselves cross over into
northern Arizona. Paria Canyon in accessable in southern Utah by heading west
on 89 from Page, AZ. After about 30 to 40 miles road goes through small cut in
mountain, then sharp turn to the right (north). Dirt road to the left, heading
south/west. Go about 6 miles on it to Wire Pass. Hike about a mile
into canyon.</dd>

<h2>Cataract Canyon</h2>
4 day raft trip down the canyon (Moab to Lake Powell), then flew back
up.<br>

<h2>Crack Canyon</h2>

<dt>Directions</dt>
<dd>From SLC, head south on I-15 to UT-6. South on UT-6, as if going
to Moab, but when you get to I-70, head west about 8 miles. South on ???
for 20 miles. Turn right on a marked, paved road. Soon turns to gravel.
Once you break through the bluffs, bear left and follow along the bluffs.
I did not explore the first canyon (??? Canyon); went on to the second
(Crack Canyon.) You can drive to the mouth of the canyon, then hike.
In some places, erosion had carved tunnels tall enough to walk through.
Very neat, but it was getting dark so I didn't see it all.
