Title: Anarchist solution to climate change Author: Seth Martinez Date: 09/22/2018 Language: en Topics: climate change, Anarchism
In the world I see - you are stalking elk through the damp canyon
forests around the ruins of Rockefeller Center. You'll wear leather
clothes that will last you the rest of your life. You'll climb the
wrist-thick kudzu vines that wrap the Sears Tower. And when you look
down, you'll see tiny figures pounding corn, laying strips of venison on
the empty carpool lane of some abandoned superhighway. You may notice
this quote is similar to David Fincher's Fight Club Where the main
characters, while quite literally, are fighting people, they are also
fighting against materialism and consumerism. Though it doesn't show it
in the film in a very real sense, consumerism is fighting us as
inhabitants of the earth. consumerism, all this needless spending
creates pollution, and pollution is a violation of our rights. It
violates our right to live in a healthy environment. We are all
consumers. Consumers of a lifestyle obsession, and it's not our fault
it's what we have been taught from generation to generation. Influential
Advertising has us chasing cars and clothes, working jobs we hate so we
can buy things we don't need. These things such as iPhones, video game
consoles, and unhealthy food and drinks we can access with the swipe of
a plastic card, all harm the environment. The waste that we don't want
gets thrown out of our homes and eventually ends up in huge landfills or
in the ocean. our whole society is so addicted to consumerism they are
leaving the planet in worse conditions for the future generation.
SO what's the solution???
For decades we have been trying to apply band-aid solutions to the
sucking chest wound we would call climate change. With that in mind, I'm
not here to tell you that by recycling plastics you can save the earth,
cause millions of people have tried. I'm also not here to tell you that
driving electric cars will slow down the effects caused by greenhouse
gases. No, what I want to remind you is that desperate time call for
desperate measures. So what we so desperately need is a system change
and we all know it but everyone is scared. Once again it is not our
fault as humans we fear change even if it is for the better. We need to
change society and they way it works because right now if we were to
completely stop polluting the air millions would lose their jobs, starve
or possibly die. So how would we change society? We need to revert to an
Anarchist society.
When people hear the word anarchy they automatically think of “chaos” or
“ the breakdown of civil order” when in fact an anarchist society would
inevitably bring upon more civil society. So what would this society
look like? The way I see it, the society resembles the garden of Eden,
with more technological advances and artifacts like broken down
buildings only stand to remind us of the evil society that is the past.
Cities have been abandoned and trees and plants are growing right where
their avenues used to be. freshwater flows a river down where a large
sidewalk used to be. All other streets and roads have been unpaved for
orchards and gardens, animals freely roam through what used to be an
outside mall, foraging on the moss that covers the walls until it is
almost unrecognizable. The people are no longer worried if their next
paycheck will be enough to feed their family because all money is
worthless. People hunt, fish, and forage for their meals. Houses are no
longer provided electricity because it is no longer a necessity to them
as it was in the past. Everything is different than how it used to be.
People can see the stars in Los Angeles and not the ones on the floor of
Hollywood Blvd, which is now a large river. But the biggest difference
is the air, the air is so clean a deep breath gives a person a moment of
euphoria. The ocean has reverted years of damage to its ecosystem.
Making food in the ocean plentiful. This could be the future and it's
not brought on by the government, in this utopia there is no government.
This paradise was created by the people.
Now that you might be interested let me tell you how this can be
fulfilled in a number of steps.
Propagation & Enlistment: when a lot of people hear about this utopia we
as people can bring upon ourselves some will decide to join the
movement.
Militarization: for the first decade people including the government and
besuited terrorists on wall street will fight against this only to keep
their fortune and status. We will need martyrs so devoted to the cause
they will fight for the cause.
Revolution: when governments and social groups finally give in to the
movement after years of fighting we shall declare anarchy and shut down
big business and demonetize money. Terminate any persons involved in
mass production of pollutants or causing harm to the environment.
Colonization: after the destruction comes to an end and a beautiful
world has blossomed out of the many seasons that have come upon the
ruins. many towns and cities will come together as one race and
population no one above anyone, no hierarchy, and everyone has the right
to do as they please however if one causes any harm to the world they
live on they risk being publicly shamed which can affect your reputation
and less people will want to trade with you or help you, etc.
This society will allow the earth to last a lot longer as well as
promote good characteristics in people such as workmanship, humility,
and the idea that no one is better than another. We all are part of the
same compost heap. No one is unique in a sense that makes them better
than someone else. We are all going to die, we are all bound to the
ground, so why trash the place where you will rest your head for what
feels like infinite time. Let's make the planet better for us and for
future generations, the most efficient way possible.
Dear students, teachers, workers, scientists, and anyone who cares for
the well-being of the planet, thank you for taking the time to listen to
my message. We are all consumers. Consumers of a lifestyle obsession,
and its not our fault its what we have been taught from generation to
generation. Influential Advertising has us chasing cars and clothes,
working jobs we hate so we can buy things we don't need. These things
such as Iphones, video game consoles, and unhealthy food and drinks we
can access with the swipe of a plastic card, they all harm the
environment. The waste that we don't want gets thrown out of our homes
and eventually ends up in huge landfills or in the ocean. our whole
society is so addicted to consumerism they are leaving the planet in
worse conditions for the future generation. Why? Because our government
says to, when the economy is failing they will tell you you need to be
out purchasing the next smartphone and just keep swiping that pretty
plastic card. The biggest problem of climate change isnt water levels,
or green house gasses... its fear! Not fear of the harm caused to earth
but fear that all the crooked politicians and besuited terrorists on
wall street will might lose their fortune if the people start battling
climate change and finally put an end to consumerism.
