Recently checked out this experimental social media called Minus (https://bengrosser.com/projects/minus/) with the gimmick that you only get 100 posts for life, which is supposed to help us make legitimate human connection, or something. But honestly I feel like this place does a much better job at Minus's goal.

Maybe that's just because Nestle Brazil has an account on there and we wouldn't allow such intrusion by corporations around here :)

Once gemini gets going, the corpo shills are going to be here too. The lack of ads and tracking can make it better, but it's not going to be free of commerce-spam. We're going to need a bigger deterent. · 1 year ago

100 posts per life just sounds, well, like a gimmick. The reason people on the surface web are so superficial isn't because of some idealistic reason inherent to people. It's that corperations like Discord, Reddit, Facebook, Google, Amazon, etc etc etc, these companies play off (and feed off) of our alienation as a society. The more time we are spending posting over discord, the more meaningless status updates we are posting over instagram, the less we are spending quality, real, social time with actual people the more profits we are turning for these companies as they harvest our data.

That is why HTTP is so fucked. Because to be otherwise isn's profitable. · 1 year ago

I think Gemini tends to draw people who have burned out on the Web entirely, which is not something Minus can say. · 1 year ago
