Thank those of you who reached out and sent clothes! Chadwick has picked out an outfit. We didn't catch a photo of him in his new digs, but I promise to post it here as soon as we do :)
Update: 2021-06-26
Once again, thank you all. I'm sorry it's taken so long to get you all a photo, but it turns out figuring out Chadwick's clown make up for his first video recording has taken much longer than I expected. I haven't forgotten, and you'll all hear from Chadwick, hopefully soon.
I've been exploring a new clown persona, Chadwick, for a while now. I've been occasionally talking about him on the fedi, in this thread:
https://merveilles.town/web/statuses/105392817360732285
It's been a couple of weeks since I've brought Chadwick out, largely due to not being sure how to adapt the next stage of his development to pandemic life.
At some point in the development of a clown persona, they have to find what they wear. I hesitate to call it a costume, because to them it's just their clothes, but they do tend to have rather outlandish fashion decisions.
Currently both Russ and I are starting to associate a set of my work-out clothes to Chadwick, but they're definitely not clothes that he could perform in, so it's definitely time to help him explore fashion.
I've done this in a few different ways in the past, but one of the best 'first steps' to finding a clown's costume that I've found, is to go to a thrift store and let them run around in it and find what they like.
But right now, wandering around for an extended time in an store isn't advisable.
So I'm reaching out to the smallnet, my gemini and fediverse friends, and asking for help.
If you have any men's clothing that is still in reasonable shape that you have been looking to get rid of, please send it to me?
I'm trying for variety, because I have very little idea what Chadwick will like, and am trying to give him the opportunity to surprise me.
If you're wondering why I'm not just shopping online, it's a bit complicated;
Clowns don't seem to interface with the internet overly well, when it's simplified for them (a video chat for example) it's ok, but they get very drained by attempting to figure out what they're doing with a computer.
There's also just no way to get the *feel* of a thing by seeing it's photograph online. It just loses something in that attempt.
It's reasonably possible to go shopping for specific thing that a clown persona has realized it needs online, but it won't work for this early exploration.
Once I've recieved a reasonable variety of clothing, we'll spread it out in a room so he can go through it all and find an outfit he likes and feels comfortable in.
Once we've succeeded in that goal, I'll come back here and change this post, I promise we'll catch a photo for y'all.
As Chadwick is only going to need an outfit or two, I'll have a lot of men's clothing left over that isn't his style, and I'd like to send that forward to someone who needs it. I looked for charities redistributing lightly worn clothing near me, and I can't find anything other than resale shops. I'm willing to donate things there if I find nowhere else for them to go, but if you know of a charity redistributing clothes to people in need, or if you yourself need or know someone who needs some new clothes, please reach out to me.
Additionally, as I do have some budget for costuming, if you have clothes that you'd like to donate, but don't have the postage, let me know. I'm happy to cover postage for as far as that budget stretches.
