New Years Goals

Run Some 5k's

I haven't run a 5k (or 10k) race since before the pandemic. Then the world seemed to end! In 2022 the 5k's, 10k's etc came back in my area, but I didn't run in them.

I've been heading to the gym a lot lately, to get my endurance and speed back up. By the time the races are going again, in May/June, I hope to be in good enough shape to run a decent race!

Free up time

There are several things I can do to free up time.

Don't pay too much attention to news. By this I mean mainstream news. I'm not going to miss an important story, anyways. I'll know the next time the world blows up. People will tell me o.0
Avoid web browsers. An ongoing goal. Especially graphical web browsers. Websites use a lot of techniques to suck you in and keep your attention. It helps that many websites are just too heavy for my Pinephone (Piney) to handle anyway.
Play less one-player games... if I am gaming, do it with family and friends.
Less video. Kind of like games, if I am going to watch video, make it a group thing. Watch video with my family, so that it is spending time with others, and not isolating myself.

Roleplaying

I play a lot with my family and friends already. But I want to get back into running my own campaigns. It helps my creativity! I play both in-person and online, as some of my roleplaying friends are hundreds of miles away! I used to DM (that is, be the Dungeon Master in Dungeons & Dragons) quite a bit. I want to get back into that!

Write More

I want to finish one of my novels, at least! I just have to make it a priority. I have several that are half (or more) done. I have one that is *THIS CLOSE*. I just have to clean it up and publish it!

I'm likely to use something like smashwords.com to publish my novels. I need to look at ways to advertise my stories too. I *really* don't like Facebook or Twitter. I am looking at worldanvil.com, to see if that will help spread the word (or help organize my worlds)! By the way, if anyone uses World Anvil, drop me a note and let me know if you like it! I also want to write more posts online (in this gemlog) because it is fun :) I like to write about tech, and stories. Time to get the posts going!

Tech Training - Linux Admin

I use Linux all the time in my personal life, including server administration. Time to get a certificate or two! Conferences are starting back up too, so time to jump into those, and meet some people.

Fire up my own Mastodon Server?

Stretch goal... it sounds like it is a bit of a headache to administer these, and they cost a bit to run.

It might be fun though!

Summary

I'm sure there are a lot of things missing in the list above that are important to focus on, but those are the things that came to mind as I was writing. Now to see how many things I can accomplish!
