Male intruder entered Limerick home in broad daylight

David Hurley, 28 Jan

GARDAI are investigating a burglary incident, earlier this week, during

which an intruder entered a home by climbing in an open window.

A woman who lives at the house in the Dooradoyle area of the city was

only alerted to the break-in when she saw the culprit walking away.

"The lady in her early sixties was in her home at 10.30am on Monday

when she saw a male walking away from her front door. She went into her

sitting room to look out of her window and realised that the window was

open and wet footprints were on the windowsill, her couch and the

floor," said divisional crime prevention officer Sergeant Ber Leetch.

"It appears that the male climbed in through her open window, he may

have heard her and quickly climbed out again," she added.

The intruder did not steal any property but the householder got a

terrible shock.

"I think this shows that a thief will take a chance to break into a

house if he sees it. Break-ins do not just happen in darkness; this was

at 10.30 in the morning in full daylight. Keep all windows and doors

secure even when you are in your home," advised Sgt Leetch.
