    <title>[알록短錄] Terraforming</title>

		<content>### Terraforming

At the library today I came across a picture book about terraforming. The subtitle of the book was something along the lines of "let's make a new Earth!" The book explains how we could terraform Mars to replace the planet we are destroying. It begins by showing Earth in the year 2070, and how by then it is already barely inhabitable because of our highly pollutant ways of life. But, rather than changing our ways of life, heck, LETS TERRAFORM ANOTHER PLANET!

Oh sure. Nevermind that we humans have neglected to take proper care of the members of our own species, let alone our current planet and its non-human inhabitants. Nevermind the oligarchies, the new wave of fascist fuck wads, the racism, sexism, ALL THE FUCKING PLASTIC. Starting fresh with a new planet is different. WE CAN BE IN CONTROL. WE HAVE SCIENCE! We'll do better. We won't be evil. We'll have bean bag chairs in our offices and stuff, it'll be cool!

This book was written by astronmers employed at a government research institute. The fact that things like this are not perceived to be problematic at all bothers me. It's in there with needlessly gendered EVERYTHING, advertizing to children, and the dictum "time is money."

		<content>### Thou Mayest

I just finished reading John Steinbeck's East of Eden. I don't think I have ever felt so attached to fictional characters before. When I first started reading it I devoured page after page, but once I approached the ending I started to take it in small doses to delay parting ways with the people in this story. There is just so much in this book. I don't think I could even summarize what it is about! I have a lot I want to say about it, but I need to ruminate on it as a whole after reading the ending. I also have a handful of songs that I've started writing while reading this book. I think I need to play around with them for a spell to feel through this thing.

In the meantime I will be here, weeping like a baby, missing my dad.

    <title>[알록短錄] Open Comb Razors</title>

	<content>	### Open Comb Razors

When I first started using a double-edged razor to shave, I bought an extra open comb head to have just in case and to eventually try out once I got used to wet shaving. Open comb razors are described as being more of an "aggresive" shave, which, as a beginner, sounded dangerous. So it stayed in the medicine cabinet, and I mostly forgot about it. Recently I finally gave it a try.

It feels a lot different than a standard closed comb DE razor, but it is not unpleasant. Even without shaving for a few days it mows the long whiskers down straight away. The angle of the blade is a bit different from the other head I am used to, so getting a baby butt smooth shave will take some practice. I was surprised that in spite of the "agressiveness" of the open comb it causes close to no irritation at all. I really did not expect that.

I think what makes it "aggressive" and which shies people away is that you feel the blade a bit more. It is not as "smooth," and that resistance can be a little intimidating. The resistance, however, is the blade cutting through whiskers, and really, so long as you are using a quality, sharp blade, being able to feel where it is and what it is doing makes more sense.

So yeah...if you wet shave and have not tried an open comb, give it a go!

	<content>	### COVID Reclusion

It's been only 38 hours or so since I tested positive for COVID, but it feels like it has been so much longer. I don't feel too bad, really. The worst part is being hulled up in a corner of the house while my wife has to take care of our three kids all alone. It has definitely thrown off everyone's rhythm. The kids are used to sleeping with me every night, and so our bedtime routine has become quite a challenge for my wife. Our two year old becomes overly demanding of her when he is tired, and is generally less cooperative toward her throughout the day.

My wife has a few symptoms, but the self-test kits have all come out negative so far. I got a PCR test yesterday that came out positive, and I believe my wife is now required to get one too. I heard our five year-old coughing quite a bit out there earlier. I don't know what will happen if we all get sick. So long as the symptoms are as mild as they have been for me, then it might be easier in a sense---at least then I could help take care of the kids.

Hopefully this all blows over in time for us to catch the bloom.

	<content>### Well shit...

Found out yesterday that I have COVID. I'm all quarantined in the master bedroom, and feeling much better now actually. My poor 5 year-old was so scared for me and sad before bed. She is used to snuggling me every night. She was also concerned I would get COVID germs all over her books in here haha.

I just hope no one else in this house gets it. Having sick kids suuuuuucks, especially if you're sick too.

I was perusing one of my wife"s books and discovered that the bibliography chapter had been displaced by a god damned QR code!

	<content>### Reviving the Dallok

I haven't written in Allok Dallok for the better part of a year. I had written a python script to manage the indexes and feeds of my capsule, but hadn't included functionality for this style of all-in-one list-o-logs. I also became overwhelmed with work, so I stopped posting as frequently. It's nice having a place to jot down passing thoughts, so untill I can cook up a neat function or two to organize it all for me, I'll just be writing the atom feeds by hand :b
