An event will be held in Dublin to commemorate victims of the
Holocaust.
Taoiseach Leo Varadkar will be among those due to speak at the Mansion
House this evening to mark International Holocaust Memorial Day.
The suffering inflicted on Jewish people who were persecuted during the
Holocaust along with other faiths and ethnicities, is remembered on 27
January each year.
The Mansion House event, organised by Holocaust Education Ireland, will
also commemorate those killed because of their ethnicity, disability,
sexual orientation, political affiliations or religious beliefs.
Representatives from LGBT+ organisations and disability support
organisations will participate in a candle lighting ceremony.
Secondary school students from around the country will read out the
names of victims.
Speakers include Holocaust survivors Tomi Reichental and Suzi Diamond.
Minister for Children, Equality, Disability, Integration and Youth
Roderic O'Gorman; Leonard Abrahamson, President of the Jewish
Representative Council of Ireland along with second and third
generation survivors Caryna Camerino and Nichola Zinn-Collis and Mr
Justice Donal O’Donnell, Chief Justice of Ireland, will also
participate.
