I use google docs on mobile quite a bit to write down programming/work notes when I’m on the go and don’t want to forget stuff. And I wondered if google has good mobile support for their documents via the web version.
No, it’s pretty bad (images at bottom of blog)
It’s weird how tens of millions of ppl use this service everyday, and they couldn’t take 2 minutes to fix their mobile website version of google docs? And they strip functionality instead of implementing simple mobile CSS & JS modifications.
Also, I don’t use google docs on the web browser, I use the app, but still, requiring app downloads when having universal mobile web support is such a missed opportunity for linking documents to ppl without the google docs app installed. Maybe its part of their way of incentivizing users to install their apps for tracking logins/accounts/data, and not for any functional improvements.
Here’s a simple mobile web extension in 10 lines of code that fixes a bunch of their issues.
