Little has been documentedabout the use of the silver box. Many
assume a silver box is justa set of Autovon keys, or moreadvanced readers may
be familiarwith its use in conjunction withthe standard DirectoryAssistance
ACD (Automated CallDistributorwhich distributes the calls tothe individual
Directory Assistanceoperators) but in reality thereare several applications
to thehidden row than meets the eye.

I will not explain theconstruction methods here, for theyarewidely
available on manytelecom-oriented bulletin boardsystems, but rather go into
detail aboutusing them.

The ACD and DA operators:
-------------------------

TheACD can be reached through calling aDirectory Assistance operator and
holding down the D key (941+1633Hz) while the operator answersher console,
the tone will tripthe circut and drop you into theACD. One way to verify
that youhave tripped the circut is aStutter-tone, or pulsingdialtone. From
this prompt, you candialup to 10 possible functions:

1 - Rings the Toll Text board -Useful if you dont have thenumbers on
           file.

2 - Sometimes dead circut, othertimes milliwatt test.

      3 - Sometimes milliwatt test,others 1000/1004 Hz tone.

      4 - Usually dead circut

      5 - Always dead circut

6 - Low end of loop - If yourfriend calls the ACD on the sameop. as
you do, and dials 7,you are connected.

7 - High end of loop.

      8 - 600 ohm termination

      9 - Usually dead circut

      0 - Usually dead circut

Notes: If you are havingtrouble with this method, try the 414DA
operator. It never fails, but the dial tones will sound morelike a busy
signal than a dialtone.

No 'Codes'? Well, if yourfriend lives in the same state, arrange to
meet on the800-555-1212 ACD (functions: 6,7.)

Autovon Tone Set:
-----------------

The silverbox keys also appear on the standardAutovon (themilitary phone
network) keypad.

      The functions are as follows:

      A - Flash

      B - Flash Override (Priority)

      C - Priority Communication (dial)

D - Priority Override (used toreach busy numbers in extreme emergen-
cies. When the toneis hit, I believe a flag isset as an emergency
condition, and only for top military)

To use the Autovon keys, scanfor your local Milnet or Autovonport.

All numbers are 7 digits (forthose of you who insist on tryingthis,
please take the proper securitymeasures.)

Centegram hacking:
------------------

Yes, yoursilver box can also be used forhackingearlier versions of
Centegram. Whilehacking the systemadministrators box and entering aninvalid
code, the system will attemptto log you off, but hit 'C' andfeast your ears
on 'Welcome tothe message center...' Anotheruse in Centegram hacking is
when you are entering an auth. code,it will recognize A, B, C, andD as valid
digits for addedsecurity.

(Special thanks goes out toPhiber Optik for the help with ACDand Felix
the Hack for theCentegram information.)
