This edition of the triosonata in g minor by J. H. Roman is based on the pmx
typesetting by Don Simons archived by GMD.

After having transferred Don's pmx typesetting into my mtx source files I have
added a new staff containing a realization of the figured bass for harpsi-
chord. Apart from new line breaks and the printing of the oboe parts in small
types Don's typesetting of the oboe and basso parts has remained unchanged.
During my edition of the harpsichord part I have made a few changes to the
bass figures provided by Don (there are no figures in Roman's original
manuscript).

The aim of this new edition of the triosonata has been to provide score and
parts with arranged figured bass ready for performance. It should be stressed,
however, that a figured bass arrangement like the current one is to be seen as
one possible among several other ways of realizing the basso continuo. While
my arrangement of the the harpsichord part intentionally has been kept very
simple a musician wanting to perform the continuo part in accordance with the
practice of the baroque era would improvise more or less brilliantly taking
the current performance conditions into account.

As each of the four movements have been typeset in separate mtx source files
it requires several steps to get from these to the final score and parts:

1. execute the pmx preprocessing (prepmx) on all mtx source files

2. execute the pmx score extraction (scor2prt) on all the pmx files
   (trsg1.pmx, trsg2.pmx ...) produced in step 1

3. execute the MusiXTeX preprocessing (pmxab) on the pmx score sources
(trsg1.pmx, trsg2.pmx ...) and the recorder and basso parts sources
   (trsg14.pmx, trsg13.pmx, trsg11.pmx ...) produced in step 2.

4. produce the final dvi output of the complete score and it's separate parts
by executing tex - musixflx - tex on the scripts trsg.tex, trpgo1.tex,
   trpgo2.tex and trpgb.tex linking scripts

5. if you need postscript files execute dvi2ps on the files trpgo1.dvi,
   trpgo2.dvi ... resulting from step 4.

The font definitions for the front pages are read by the linking scripts from
the file font.tex. The macro \curlybrackets read from the file curly.tex for
putting a piano brace around the basso- and harpsichord staves has recently
been published on the mutex mailing list by Mthimkhulu Molekwa
(MMolekwa@rrs.co.za).
