    Node Assembler/Debugger. A tool used to generate Engine source code and
    to aid in remote troubleshooting.

    NAD Image Binary (NIB)
    ======================

    Machine-executable code (object code) assembled by NAD. It is a
    combination of the Tymfile, the source file, and the initialization
    file, all of which structure the machine (Kernel and slots). Also
    refers to a specific file format that NAD Version 1 uses on the
    TYMCOM-X. NAD Version 2 runs under UNIX and generates the e.out
    formatted file.

    =======

    A UNIX version of NAD that translates Engine assembler source code to
    Motorola 68020 object code, which is loaded and executed in the Turbo
    Engine.

    =========

    Negative Acknowledgment. A condition indicating that the previous
    transmission block was in error and that the receiver is ready to
    accept a retransmission of the erroneous block. Also, it can mean not
    ready to multipoint (station selection) or line bid (initialization
    sequence) in point-to-point operation.

    logical structure in which network components (partitions, clusters,
    processors, and slots) are stored in hierarchical relationship to each
    other.

    ======

    The Supervisor-to-Node Code message containing the appropriate
    (external) circuit path information (origination/destination node,
    host, and port numbers, and codes indicating the circuit type and
    speed). Each node builds its part of the circuit based on the
    information in the Needle as it threads its way through the network
    carrying the data.
    There are two types of Needles: TYM2 (originates at the Supervisor to
    build the network circuit) and ISIS (builds intra-ISIS circuit from
    Node Code to the destination slot).

    NetWare
    =======

    LAN software developed by Novell. Used for microcomputers, NetWare
    enhances the token ring performance of a system. Different versions of
    NetWare can accommodate star, string of stars, Token ring, and bus
    hardware configurations. See Local Area Network.

    changes the configuration parameters for an X.25/X.75 slot, using the
    X.25/X.75 Operations Manager (XOM). The user interface is commands in
    the form of words rather than hexadecimal code. Also used in the event
    an X.25/X.75 slot has to be reloaded.

    Network Control Program (NCP)

    lines (in the network) and of the availability of the terminals at the
    ends of the network. Also refers to one component of Systems Network

    An identification code (alphanumeric) that is universally used by
    network customers, which authorizes them access to dial-up services
    in a public or shared network. The NUI is obtained from the local
    Telecommunication Administration (TA) operating the network in each
    country.

    ============================

    A program used to validate TYMNET network users and to determine what
    level of access a user has within the network. NETVAL runs in an
    ISIS slot.

    It is a combination of the Tymfile, the source file, and the
    initialization file, all of which structure the machine (Kernel and
    slots). Also refers to a specific file format that NAD, Version 1 uses
    on the TYMCOM-X. NAD Version 2 runs under UNIX and generates the e.out
    formatted file.

    communicate with the Supervisor. Also, a point of connection in the
    network where various links come together (host processors,
    communications controllers, cluster controllers, and/or terminals).
    Generally, contains a switching element used to direct traffic.

    Network Service Manager. A BT North America integrated software product
    that provides a single, user-friendly interface to the various TYMNET
    services. With a single login, a user can be automatically connected
    to management resources previously available only through multiple
    manual logins. For example, a customized list of services available
    through an NSM menu might include TymValidate, X.25/X.75 Operations
    Manager (XOM), TYMCOM Operations Manager (TOM), Net Message, and the

    ====

    Network Console. A program (now part of TMCS) that saves the history
    for a user who changes the configuration parameters for an X.25/X.75
    slot, using the X.25/X.75 Operations Manager (XOM). The user interface
    is commands in the form of words rather than hexadecimal code. Also
    used in the event an X.25/X.75 slot has to be reloaded.
