GS TidBITS Sampler is a sample collection of what you can expect to see in the following three FREEWARE monthly disk archives; GS MODS, GS WorldView and GS Oracle. They will be available for downloads around Mid-September of 1995. Look for them then at; ftp.cco.caltech.edu/pub/apple2/incoming (don't know how long they might remain there for downloading, however) They should be available and permanently archived for downloading via ftp or Telnet from: grind.isca.uiowa.edu/pub/apple2/1WSW. That's correct, I said Telnet. I'm sure you all realize that grind.isca.uiowa.edu, when accessed via ftp, only allows 10 anonamous users on that site. However, if you are willing to use Telnet, you can access grind.isca.uiowa.edu, without the 10 user limitations, at any time. I really felt it would be approiate to get this released on the first day of summer. Due to time restrictions and several other IIgs projects, I'm devoting most of my efforts toward, I simply had to throw this 'GS TidBITS Sampler' together, making it available in a rather fast and somewhat sloppy manner. I hope you'll overlook the lack of organization that it's presented with. After all, it's just a 'SAMPLER' to give you some concept of what the; GS MODS, GS WorldView and GS Oracle disks will consist of. The GS TidBITS Sampler disk archive contains; many text files of unique, diverse, strange, thought-provoking, controversial and interesting content (at least to me they were anyway), with some essay's, editorials and Usenet postings. I've included some GIF files, (collected from around the world) that show the IIGS users what they can't currently view from HTML , on many World Wide Web pages. Also included, are some great MODS and MIDI music files, plus a couple of RAREWARES. Some folders contain a small 'READ.ME' text file, which gives information you may need, dealing with any files in that folder. I advise you to read them! During the last 3 weeks time wandering the WWW via my Netscape v1.1S, with the MAC IIsi and PowerPC, collecting, converting, editing and reviewing the multitude of things obtained, I found everything from Jesus Christ to Satan and all that could be imagined in between the two. Some of the contents are specific or indirectly related to the IIGS and its multiple potential abilities. Some are just text files from the WWW, that may or may not be of interest to you. I included some real beauties in the 'Brain.Bogglers' folder, from my net wanderings. Be sure to check them out. The NET certainly has something to offer everybody! Having obtained around 81 Megs worth of files, during my 3 week (95 hours - total) WWW wanderings, (all for eventual porting to the IIGS) it took a lot of selective effort and time, to come up with the small percentage I present on this sampler. I'm certain, some of you'll find some files containing duplicate information, bazaar, far-out and/or down right useless information to your own individual needs. But, such is life. You'll have to deal with it all, AS-IT-IS. Savor and digest it or spit it out, it's up to you! Everything contained in this GS TidBITS Sampler was from public access, WWW page materials, telephone conversations, email and personal contributions, etc. Some of the contents are copyrighted by their respective authors, as noted and all of them are included with the authors, artists and composers premission. Mind boggling and diverse as it all may be in any event, it's something NEW and very INTERESTING for the IIGS users to have and review. I spent about 140 hours (total) evaluating, sorting and making the final decisions on what to include. If you have any problems unpacking or converting any of the MIDI.ZIP files or in understanding any aspect of the contents of the GS TidBITS Sampler disk, please contact me for help. I'll be only to happy to give it. I'm only an email, snail mail or voice call away! I sincerely hope to get some amount of feedback, to prove that my time was spent constructively. With the lack of response in the past and with the many things I've worked on, for the IIGS users to (hopefully) enjoy for FREE, I often feel as if I'm just PISSIN IN THE WIND. Hoping you'll find it useful in some manner, I look forward to your feedback, concerning its content and collective release. Charles T.
