Wolfenstein 3D Scenario Converter
Version 1.0.1
Copyright 1998 Eric Shepherd

This software is Shareware. If you find it useful (or, heck, even if
you don't), please send a check for $5.00 US to the address listed at
the bottom of this documentation. Support a hungry Apple IIgs game
programmer! (Do you feel guilty yet, since you didnt have to pay for
Wolfenstein 3D itself?)

So What's It Do?
The Wolfenstein 3D Scenario Converter converts Wolf 3D scenario files
from Macintosh format into Apple IIgs format. Pretty simple.

What Doesn't It Do?
WolfConvert is not a map editor! Also, Wolfenstein 3D scenarios that
include additional or replacement art will not retain the new art when
converted to the IIgs (although the level layout, weapon placements,
and enemy positions will be converted). The Apple IIgs version of
Wolfenstein 3D uses a substantially different art format that Mac
version art can't easily be converted into.

How Do I Use It?
Excellent question. There are two things you need to do before you even
run the program:

	(1)	Locate a Macintosh Wolfenstein 3D scenario you'd
		like to convert.

	(2)	Create a scenario picture. This is cut out by the
converter tool and becomes your scenario's menu
item in the Choose Scenario screen in Wolfenstein
3D. This is discussed in detail below.

Once you've accomplished those two tasks, you can run the WolfConvert
program. It'll pop up three consecutive Standard File dialog boxes:

	(1)	Select the Macintosh scenario file you want to
convert. Note that all files are selectable, not
just scenario files (since the converter doesn't
know what filetype your scenario is in by the time
it arrives on your IIgs). Be sure to only select a
		valid scenario file.

	(2)	Select the scenario picture file. Only files of
		type PIC ($C1/0000) are listed.

	(3)	Specify where to save the new Apple IIgs scenario.
The Choose Scenario screen's entries are sorted by
the name of the scenario file, so name your file
appropriately. To make everyone happier, please
make sure your custom scenario's filename starts
with the letter Z; custom scenarios should be at
		the end of the list.

Once that's done, the scenario will be converted. This can take a few
moments, depending on the size of the scenario you're converting. If
an error occurs, you'll be told about it. Otherwise, an alert will
appear telling you the scenario was converted successfully.

After you've converted your scenario, you'll be asked if you'd like to
convert another. Simply click Yes or No, as appropriate.

You can quit the program by cancelling any of the three Standard File
dialog boxes.

Installing the Converted Scenario Once your scenario has been converted,
just drag it into the Levels directory in your Wolfenstein 3D folder.
From then on, it'll appear in the Choose Scenario screen!

The Scenario Picture The scenario picture file you use must be a PIC
file (type $C1/0000). This is an uncompressed super-hires screen
picture. The entire picture must be in a single palette. The only
restrictions on the palette are that color 0 must be black, color 3
must be the red used for the selection box, and color 15 must be white.

A sample scenario picture is provided, called ScenTemplate. Replace the
castle picture in the white box with an image appropriate for your
scenario, and change the text to the right of the picture to list the
name of your scenario.

Also included is a file called Letters.shr. This file includes the
complete alphabet in the font used in Wolfenstein 3Ds menus. You can
copy and paste letters from this file to match your scenario pictures
lettering with the rest of the game. Note that you may have to adjust
the palette when you copy these letters into your picture (Platinum
Paint will do this for you, if you use that program to edit your
picture).

Note also that the graphical icon in the scenario picture just happens
to be exactly the same size (92 pixels wide by 60 pixels tall) as those
in the Macintosh version, so you can just copy that PICT resource from
the Mac scenario file, convert it to a 16-color image, and paste it in.
