Quest For The Hoard
by Pegasoft of Canada, 1991.
IIGS Version by Ken Burtch

Hard Disk Installation
To install Quest for the Hoard on your hard disk, follow these steps:
1) Create a new folder on your hard disk called Quest.
2) Copy all the files and
folders (except for ProDOS, System, and Icons) into your Quest folder.
3) Copy the Quest.Icons file in the Icons folder into the Icons folder on your hard disk.
4) Copy the Tool098 and Tool219 (if you don't already have them) in the
System/Tools folder into the System/Tools folder on your hard drive. 5) To start
Quest for the Hoard, double-click on Quest.Sys16. Press any key while the title
screen is loading for instructions.

Starting to Play
The main screen of Quest has 8 buttons:
Stereo - use stereo sound;	Mono - use mono sound;
Auto - reveal adjacent auras of equal intensity;	Manual - don't (more points);
One Player - start a one player game	Multiplayer - start a multiplayer game
Again - same players as last time	Quit - stop playing Quest
Once you make your selections, the game show you the player roster. If you are a
new player, click on an empty spot in the roster and Quest will ask you for your
name. If your name is already on the roster, click on it. For multiplayer games,
click on all the players in the roster who will be playing. When the selections
have been made, select one of the time intervals at the bottom. This is the
amount of time each player has in the vault before he/she has to switch with
another player. The Clear button erases the selected people from the roster.

Playing Quest
To the top of the screen is a clock. The white bar represents how much time you
have to uncover the treasures; when the bar is full, it's game over. To the upper
right is a box containing the level (vault) number, score, and how many treasure
you have left to find. Initially, there are 5 treasures hidden in the grid. If
you are an advanced player, you can press the 'A' key to skip the first level (as
it's pretty boring). In the center of the screen is the vault floor with all it's
tiles. One tile is always overturned for you at the start. This tile is black,
meaning that there are no treasures next to it. You can overturn tiles by
clicking on them with the mouse. Most of the tiles in the first vault are black,
since there are only five treasures. If you overturn a tile that is glowing, then
one of the adjacent tiles hides a treasure. If you are in automatic mode,
adjacent tiles with a glow of the same intensity will also be revealed. The glow
is from the spells cast by the evil sorceress; to touch a treasure without
de-spelling it means certain death. Usually in the first vault, if you find one
of these aura squares, you find that there is an aura surrounding one tile. This
tile hides a treasure. To the lower right is a box marked 'Spells of Protection'.
Click on this box so that it starts to glow and then click on the tile where the
treasure is. If there is a treasure, you get 50 points. Continue your search
until you have found all the treasures.

Hints
1) Save Hourglasses until needed.
2) Use Gems immediately.
2) Different strategies work on different levels. Play the odds on the lower levels.
3) You score more on higher levels.
