TIL Ubuntu bug #461354 was filed in 2009 pointing out that the finger command does not support utf8 characters and so I looked up the bug on launchpad.net and noticed a comment from ~3hrs ago pointing out that this remains a problem. That's pretty funny on its own but another part of that page helpfully points out that 'This bug affects 3 people' and that had me imagining a lone, hapless trio of finger devotees who have for twelve long years been trying in vain to view each other's emoji-enabled finger profiles and indignantly hitting reload on that bug report page every so often, a hellish loop that let's face it could go on for another decade or longer.
