On 9/13/99, the GS WorldView staff found this informative and historical post on
the CSA2 Usenet newsgroup from Bryan Villados. See the info clip below.

Subject: Apple II Product Info Glossies in PDF
From: Bryan Villados <news001@macgeek.org>

For those who don't remember... Apple Computer used to distribute
product information sheets, which were printed on glossy paper. I
believe they may still do this for the Apple dealers and user groups.

I was browsing through one of my Apple Product CDs (dated 1991) and
found a bunch of them in Aldus PageMaker 4.x format. I then converted
them to Adobe PageMaker 6.x format, then output them via Postscript and
distilled into an Adobe PDF format. You can download all the sheets by
grabbing one of the two files:

<http://www.macgeek.org/pdf/a2pdf.sea> for Macintosh users
<http://www.macgeek.org/pdf/a2pdf.zip> for PC users

For Apple II fans, this archive includes:

- Apple II Video Overlay Card
- HyperCard IIGS
- Apple II High-Speed SCSI Card
- Apple IIGS (512K)
- Apple IIGS System Software 5.0
- Apple II Monochrome Monitors
- AppleCD SC and SC Plus
- AppleColor RGB Monitor
- Apple IIe Card for Macintosh
- Apple User Groups

These PDF files require Adobe Acrobat Reader... The latest version can
be found at:

For A2 archive sites: Feel free to add this PDF archive to your
collection, but please give me credit for the donation.

Thanks Bryan and we gladly give you credit for the donation. Our GS WorldView
staff downloaded these PDF files and then we captured all of their contents and
present them in graphics as standard GIF 87a format files, purely for their
historical value and for viewing with any standard GIF viewer for the Apple II
and IIgs computers. So, that's what these GIF graphic files are in this folder.

http://ww.grin.net/~cturley/gsezine/GS.WorldView/******Sept99/A2.PRODUCTS.PDF.PICS/

All GIF files within the above URL folder are freeware and can be used by
anybody for their needs without any restrictions. You can view these GIF files
online with any standard graphical browser look exactly the same in content as
they did when viewed on a Mac PPC using the Adobe Acrobat Reader. They were
displayed in 16 color Grayscale in Adobe Acrobat Reader exactly as you will view
them with the GIF files and that's what format of GIF file color palette they
are presented with in these GIF files also.

If you see them as low in clarity, resolution and quality, fuzzy, etc. that's
exactly the way they viewed from within the PDF files using the Adobe Acrobat
Reader. Remember the process with the original 1991 multiple conversions used to
turn the original 1991 documents into the Adobe Acrobat Readers PDF file.

QUESTION:
Why did we do this?

ANSWER:
Because some Apple II and IIgs users might enjoy viewing them and they might not
have a Mac or PC available to view the actual PDF file contents. But, they can
certainl;y view them as a GIF graphic file and if desired could also convert
them from the GIF file format to a standard IIgs graphic file format or even as
an Apple II Double-HiRes or Standard Single HiRes graphic file format for their
individual viewing need.

All these GIF 16 color grayscale files have been archived as a ShrinkIt archive
(A2.PDF.PICS.SHK) and uploaded to the Apple2 Ground ftp site also. They should
soon be available from the Sept99 upload folder on Ground. The ShrinkIt archive
size is 1.1 MB. The GIF files have been renamed for compliance with the P8 file
name limits and the GIF files are all in standard binary file format with no
resource forks.

That's All Folks !
