05 June 2021 and 06 June 2021

I didn't manage to get a phlog post in yesterday. So Friday was a trip
to Burton on Trent, a brewing town in the east midlands with 2
friends. We went out for food fairly quickly and ended up in a Nandos.
Burton seems to either have expensive places to eat or closed places
to eat. There was no inbetween! We found a goth shop with 2 child
sized dolls of which 1 was naked and the other only had eye lashes on
the 1 eye. The temptation to buy them and take them to the wedding was
great but a closed shop prevented us. The Saturday was the day of the
wedding. I keep waking up at stupid o'clock and struggling to fall
back to sleep at the moment. So I ended up waking at 6. Sigh. Trips to
Lidl provided breakfast and time wasting. Eventually it was time to
head to the wedding. We discovered there are 2 Burton Roads and so
ended up on some confused taxi ride. He was very keen to give me a
receipt when I truely couldnt care. It was a little odd. The wedding
venue was in a woodland clearing with a large gazebo. It was a lovely
spot and had been decorated with the couple's race numbers. They are
keen runners. Numbers were limited to 30 as part of the covid
conditions in the UK. It made for a lovely and intimate wedding. Sort
of a blessing in disguise. The only real issue was the whole putting
masks on and off while carrying a drink. The bride was dazzling in an
understated dress which was accented with a green leather jacket which
was customised with her first initial. It was a perfect touch for her.
I was a teary muppet through the ceremony as seems to be the case in
recent years. It was lovely seeing 2 people who are perfect for each
other share their love with us all. There was lots of fun had in that
whirlwind of madness that weddings often are. At the end of the night,
we reached a point where we had to get back to the hotel. More taxi
fun.... We ended up walking a mile or so in the dark, calling the
company and eventually got picked up. Lesson learnt - taxis in Burton
suck when going to a rural area.

Today, I once again woke up at 6 but managed to snooze for a bit in
half hour intervals. I am sitting writing this while looking out at
the railway. It is rather wet too..... Thankfully yesterday was
glorious.
