FontSel is copyright 1992 by Jay M. Krell. All rights reserved. FontSel may not
be sold or bundled with something that is sold without the author's permission.

FontSel is based on MenuFonts, a Macintosh Control Panel from Dubl-Click
Software.

To install FontSel, copy it the System:CDevs folder of you startup disk, delete
CDev.data, and reboot. Note that under System 6, CDevs will become seperate
control panels.

FontSel has not been tested very much, so PLEASE report any problems you
encounter.

FontSel is a CDev that helps you while selecting fonts from a font menu. With
FontSel, font names are written in the font that they name. This way, you can see
what you are selecting before you select it. FontSel's workings are more than a
bit unorthodox and rely on things that are not documented. Some important points
about version 0.3:

o As stated, FontSel still mucks with things it shouldn't, but version 0.3 does
things a little better than 0.2. o The font size used is 10 points, but, for the
sake of speed and clarity, FontSel does not ask for the font to be scaled, so the
nearest size is used. Since it is often larger, FontSel expands the menu
horizontally to fit the largest font I have - Chicago Ridge. If one of your fonts
goes outside of the font menu, let me know so that I might expand it more. I have
read recommendations from Pointless users that you save 10 point bitmaps for use
with FontSel. o Whenever you quit an application, the fonts are all purged from
memory. In the future, they might remain in memory to eliminate the reloading. o
FontSel does not work Font menus in new desk accessories. This too might change.
If FontSel does work with a desk accessory, that desk accessory is probably
violating the recently issued technote #104. o FontSel may be turned on and off,
but turning it on will not take effect until you run another application. FontSel
must be in the CDevs folder while you boot. If it is installed after a boot, it
will tell you that you need to reboot for it to take effect. If FontSel is turned
off with its checkbox, but the Finder shows it as enabled, then you can turn it
on without rebooting from the CDev. Therefore, you might want to turn it off
using its checkbox instead of the Finder's Get Info window.

Version 0.31, released just days after 0.3, fixes two problems
o doesn't mess up Choose Font dialog
o turning on and off take effect immediately

At this point, I think FontSel is worth some money, but I will hold off on making
it shareware till the next version. If you like/use FontSel, please let me know.
If you would like to see certain features (whether or not they are mentioned
above), please tell me. Don't underestimate the worth of letting me know you like
FontSel. Ray Bailey's positive comments on GEnie, which I read yesterday, are
largely responsible for me finishing up 0.3 for release. Also, I'm definitely
open to new a title and a new icon for FontSel.
