@brdx Totally missed your reply here, sorry about that! Guess I just didn't get notified. But yeah agreed, there's a lot of work to be done, and maybe "defund" will eventually lead to police abolition anyway. Like, if all the current functions of the police (outside of protecting capital) are devolved to other, better organizations, then the police might "wither away" as people realize they're useless. The idea behind defunding includes redirecting the funds that classically do end up going to police into the sort of programs that are proven to prevent the need for cops in the first place. Other reforms need making, as well as social changes. We can limit their scope severely, and remove immunities and other unnecessary ‘tools’. If cops can be watched by all people at all times, cannot simply conspire with judges and prosecuters, and are not given immunities, the Nazi element will move on to something a little more underground. At that point we can actually begin to know who is who, and see through the badges. · 2 years ago
