Here is a link to an interesting article about GameFAQs gopher://ymodem.org/0/crummysocks/posts/post440.txt · 4 months ago
I saw more than one FAQ that was posted the Usenet back when by convention, Usenet posts were implicitly in the public domain. From the very beginning these guides were written as a labor of love and not as a commercial production. In any case, the content was not made by GameFAQs and some of the authors are no longer alive. That's my take as a digital anarchist. · 4 months ago
@bencollver I mentioned your GameFAQs archive in my log today would be interesting to hear your stance on worrying about copyright as a fellow archiver. gemini://tilde.team/~smokey/logs/2022-09-20-copy.gmi · 4 months ago
Thanks Birabittoh! For a backup, see the Offline Viewing link on the About page. · 4 months ago
Great work! Are you planning to make this ultimate backup available on a public repo? · 4 months ago
The archive was just a bunch of plaintext files. I fixed encoding errors, sanitized file names, then used a short TCL script to import the details into an SQLite database. I used another short TCL script to generate the directory indexes with links to the plaintext files. I found that the archives on endangeredsoft and archive.org are not identical. Each has some walkthroughs that the other doesn't. I used the ones from endangeredsoft where available, and then added a few platforms from the sitegrab on archive.org (atari2600, ds, pc, ps). · 4 months ago
