戦闘員、派遣します! / Combatants Will Be Dispatched!

A series targeted at 14-something teenage boys, with the humour to match — the rest of the anime has done little to change my judgement on this show.

The story is quickly told: the cartoonishly evil Kisaragi Corporation is about to finish their mission of world-conquest. Ever solicitous of their staff, Kisaragi's three supreme leaders, Astraoth, Belial — both dressed in costumes that hide little of their voluptuous physiognomy — and science buff Lilith, look for new areas of expansion to keep their army of evil-doers busy. They settle on space conquest. The dice decides that combatant number six (戦闘員六号) is the one who'll be beamed to an unknown planet together with Alice (アリス), an android in the form of a little girl. Without further ado, number six and Alice are pushed into the teleporter and off they go.

Once arrived at their target planet and barely having avoided being eaten by a group of ravenous hyenas, they meet and befriend Snow, the commander of the royal guard of the Kingdom of Grace (and at least as well-equipped as Astaroth and Belial). Soon after, they find themselves enlisted into the Kingdom's army with agent number six in charge of a small unit of irregulars consisting of a demoted Snow, Alice, Rose, and Grimm. Rose is a constantly hungry chimera-girl who can adopt the abilities of whatever she eats, Grimm the archbishop of a dark deity with the convenient ability to resurrect whenever she gets killed. With this little band of misfits Six starts a guerrilla battle against the army of the Demon Lord that threatens the Kingdom of Grace.

Much of the anime then pictures the battles against the Demon army and its many powerful officers, in particular Heine, one of the four heavenly kings in the Demon King's army — unsurprisingly another scantily dressed woman. That is, the part of the anime not taken up by the worst types of puerile sexual jokes.

Six can get stronger weapons by collecting “Evil Points”, normally through acts of creepy exhibitionism — and Six is the very incarnation of creepiness.

Still, even if most of the jokes are puerile and inane, at times the show succeeds in landing a joke. And if the anime maintains any level of charm it is by making the hero team up with likeable misfits to defend the kingdom. And in spite of his abysmal character, Six has the one quality of staying loyal to his mad crew, sort of at least.

Overall, this show has to me the taste of a rancid burger, sweetened by the occasional guilty laugh.
