Tradition

Tradition

Will we be able to come together as a people or instead continue to

watch the rise of fascism as a disjointed mess?

Watching people try to show up at least six years late to the party is

hard (let's face it those of us who arrived 6-8 years ago were already

dragging ass), but you know, yay (!) glad you're here. What really gets

me is many of those who are joining now fall straight in line with a

well rehearsed chorus of Karen's dedicated more to the letter of the law

and whether or not permits have been acquired before they dare think of

actually showing up. I don't even know what to do with this thinking.

When the "resistance" instantly turned into a marketing campaign with

bumper stickers, hats, and shitty t-shirts... and any real disturbances

were demonized and squashed out, my heart sank. When they begged us not

to look too closely at candidates and pretended that "no matter who" was

a banger of a slogan and not an escape from accountability for terrible

voting and track records, knowing full well this directly set them in

opposition of what we were fighting for, I felt physically ill.

Liberals "went high" as our courts were systematically stacked with

religious zealots. Our representatives guarding their "traditions." Long

held traditions of blocking action. Long standing traditions of

showmanship and complicity. Well protected traditions of economic

manipulation and systemic oppression.

All of this while some were really in the trenches. I mean, really

showing up. Showing up for each other. Showing up for DAPL, for black

lives, showing up for children in cages, showing up for women, showing

up for our trans brothers and sisters, for the poor, for the

disenfranchised. These people were out there really putting in the work,

leading the people, demanding equity and equality for ALL the people.

These people trying to lead and FIGHT with all their love and fury. All

the while being demonized by the news, and considered the enemy of both

of those twisted up wings of that sick old American bird.

Remember, lots of good people were killed, in a traditional American

fashion by police and their Klan. Police escorted white supremacists

around and literally attacked people marching to try to end white

supremacy. Protesters were killed, mamed, tear gassed, arrested and

unless you were there, you have no idea how skewed the media's

portrayals were. So some shit got lit on fire. I am SO absolutely

shocked that half of our cities did not burn to the ground.

So you can wear your t-shirts, don your car in catchy bumper stickers,

wear an ugly sun visor, that shows you want to "resist," I mean, fine.

Get real though. It isn't going to cut it.

Remember, the police protected white supremacists all the way to the

White House, and they still do. They won't stop. That other twisted up

wing... that louse infested wing... They are well organized. They are

armed. They are really well armed. They are training, stock piling,

practicing. They don't play by the rules. They only care about tradition

so long as it serves them. They screamed about that thin blue line up

until they were bashing in thin blue skulls at the Capitol. They are

willing and far too able to dismantle and tear it all down. They will

smile as they take our rights away one by one.

They have sent many of us death threats, they have websites dedicated to

who among the activists they will come for first. They have shared with

us their rape fantasies. They are itching for it. They want war. The

rhetoric, the action to back the rhetoric, it's been on the wall scribed

in blood for years now. If you are truly just seeing it now... don't you

dare look away. Act.
