Title: Pamphlet for confronting canada Author: Pluck Language: en Topics: Inspiration Source: Confronting canada day
Nationalism has it‘s roots in canada. Canada‘s rhizomes are historically
based in the displacement and genocide of Indigenous people. This action
was based on the imposition of western europe‘s imperialism. These were
nations who who had an insatiable greed and wanted resources from all
across the globe. We can see this exploitative power dynamic 150 years
later. It continues with the canadian state and it‘s supportive
relationship with business who both extract resources which continues to
displace people through poisoning water and turning the land into
something unrecognizable.
Indigenous peoples are still experiencing colonization. Too many
Indigenous women are stolen from their families, too many are murdered
and the canadian state refuses to listen. Indigenous people are more
likely to be impoverished and therefore suffer the pain of poverty which
exasperates the constant racist cultural assault. Many other communities
in canada experience this racism the Komogato Maru, the facsist group
that attacked a person of colour on Commercial Drive and recieved little
if any jail time, currently the canadian media has taken up the issue of
international workers through the temporary work program. All of these
situations are maintained, sanctioned and supported by the canadian
state. It is for this reason that this canada day we invite you to
choose not to celebrate canada day, but to confront. Deconstruct the
meaning of canadian, of what it means to exist in canada, and what it
means to celebrate it.
We fight for our desire-freedom. Freedom from exploitation and
domination. Anything is possible, and by ridding ourselves of canada
liberation is closer. Stand with us this canada day.
