I will be taking down my LXer mirror sometime this
weekend for two reasons:
First, it was an introduction of The Large Internet[1] or
the First Realm[2] into gopherspace and I'm determined to
avoid that.
Second, some of the links submitted to LXer, which is
supposed to be a Linux news aggregator, are pure advertising
-- and the absence of commercialization in this space is
important to me and to many of you.

In some ways, I wish I hadn't used the word 'contaminate' in
my one-line manifesto, since it's use imputes the 'purity'
of this little realm and I don't like the social
implications and history of that concept. I reserve the
right to go back and revise that phlog. A statement of
principles is an important thing and should be corrected if
necessary. Or maybe I will leave the phlog, since it's been
quoted, and simply revise the statement elsewhere.
On the topic of phlog revision, I've been wondering about
the etiquette around editing. I definitely do not produce
great first drafts, but I like to post phlog entries when
they're still timely and contribute to debate. Afterwards, I
refrain from editing (except glaring errors, simple
grammatical mistakes, and awkward sentences). But with those
caveats stated, my general practice is to leave my phlogs
alone, including things I REALLY wish I hadn't written,
because it seems unfair to readers and responders to change
them once posted.
So what's the etiquette, phloggers? To revise or not to
revise... that is the question.
