sleep comes like a hammer
like any thousand solid things
gritted against, fought, resisted
contact comes like a ribbon
like any thousand razor edged memories
survived, and again survived
wonder comes like safe contact
warm rush, then hush, then comfort
a sleep you can bathe yourself in
