I have been the humming chord you would but sing if aught you could
been the silken string between the wire and the wood
I have been the marrow to the constancy of sound
been stipple-mark within the word, woad resonance and ankle bone
chamber soon of instrument, installment torn from guts �� own cords
you speak the sound you would but ring, and grieve, and grieve the rounding
sign then where you ��ve been sinning, wound close and curled in
in tabernacle upon the shore where long ago your gods so sure learned to ignore your winning
for here in tabard and sinecure your messenger, your silence kill, stream empty but for drowning
pours close and of the rilling while I have been your humming chord
and mine at last unwilling
