Little Nemo: Adventures in Slumberland

1989

3.5

I absolutely love the animation in this. It looks beautiful, and the entire thing is a joy to look at. It's clear the animators had great respect for the source material, and all of the character designs and locations are true to Winsor McCay's original art, while giving it an updated feel.

I didn't enjoy the voice acting, especially of the princess (what accent was she going for exactly...?). Some of the voices got extremely grating after a while (Nemo, just get the incantation over with, will you???). Maybe I'll watch it again with the sound off and subtitles on... Though I would turn the sound back on during the musical numbers. Those are fun.

The story was interesting and exciting enough for what the movie is. I don't think it's really about that, though, much like the original comic strip. It's more about the experience than anything. On the whole, a fun one, though I would love a re-dub with some new voice talent.
