Advent 1201

Donald P. Goodman III

Version 1.0 (18 December 1201)

An endless winter covers all the eye can see,

and smothers all creation in the cold and black

of ending every growing thing, from leaf of tree

to frozen creeping things surrend'ring to the lack

of needed light and warmth; and all that's green has died

or slumbers, hoping better times will soon arise

to give them cause to sprout again, fate ever tied

to ending the eternal cold and dark of lies.

Then in the darkness shine four candles; warmth and light

shed round; in hope of coming spring creation sighs.

A child is coming! Making all things new and right,

a sun to fill the world with warmth and make it bright!
