The Delicate Art of Hitching

feral cat wasn ��t feral when we started
some other poor souls trying to stuff them
up a wee small crate for a vet run
all tense, remembering the last blood
projecting doom and distress
cat, under the bed, declares
they have become death
something slightly more profane
than destroyer of worlds in any language
and slags its pile
locking people out of their own bedroom
bringing in a larger crate and an antique
one of those real horse-hair push brooms
begets contrast, wild to animal, calm energy
folks, grab a hot shower, some breakfast
shaking humans without, excluded
relaxed voice for that quaking footprint
still radiating rage-dread, gently swept
from under bed, from under dresser
from under other dresser
it ��s ok meow, humans are slow
pursuit predators, this is what we do
comfortable projection, continual pressure
until isolated atop dresser, quiet snuggles
scruff, tuck into proper crate, fresh towel
and feral cat isn ��t feral when we finish
that ��s just humans forgetting the motions
ceding control, instead of inclusion
keeping the flow, reduction of fear
holding dear to the doing
