come pride month, marketers just plain cram everything
with rainbows �� and hey, maybe they ��re bottom feeders
or maybe they really mean the thing �� but sometimes
come the end of June �� I ��m reminded that like fall
all those colors come back down, reabsorbed to monoculture
pre-supposing that if it ��s rare, it adds value �� or
somehow, if it ��s down eleven of twelve, those
who somehow find rainbows and glitter offensive
might outright forget their boycott, come back in
throw down the green, and hell �� let folks stay unseen
doesn ��t matter if the rainbow is mine, or if the stripes
stacked a wee bit different come whatever day
someone chose to represent me, or that my obedience
could be bought for just a spot of that bright good stuff
my obedience has no name, you cannot call it with flags
my compliance is earned, and only so far as concerned
with those most basic of civilized behaviors
to let each and every person enjoy their colors
insofar as those beautiful appearances do not call for murder
nor require the forgetting of the murder that ��s already been
nor, for that matter, forgetting that there ��s more than murder
when you find my flags, fold them well and hand them round
that someone new might fly ��em, or say �� hey, that ��s not mine
but let me nab another �� something that fits me better
a thousand colors and leave ��em flowing, for as many reasons
