There seem to be a lot if OPINIONS in geminispace recently. Some people DISAGREE with other people. That sort of thing used to be confined to the mailing list. I avoided the mailing list because of it. Let's hope I'm extrapolating a trend from insufficient data.
I found the elusive breakage in my crawler. It was confused about where it had been before, due to a hash table snafu. All happy now. And there *are* more than 60,000 URLs in geminispace, it turns out.
I've been removing some cruft from the hashtag index by hand, which is pretty inefficient. But I don't have a way to automate my judgement of what's "really" a hashtag.
I read ruario's humble suggestions for Lagrange. My client, Jemi, had the same parent URL bug for gopher, so I fixed it. I'm getting QA by proxy.
The freedom to work on whatever takes my fancy is a big plus with side projects. At work it's not acceptable to say "I don't WANNA fix that. I wanna fix what interests ME!" But a down side is that some things don't get done. Like updating the version of Jemi that's available on my capsule. "I don't WANNA do that!"
According to QI, Ken Dodd said he'd read a book about Stockholm Syndrome. He didn't like it at first, but by the end it was great.
