Alright, really getting started with this Gemini thing.
I've been wanting to play around in this space for awhile. I experimented with Gopher back in late 2019 and early 2020, but the whole World Events thing distracted me from doing much with it at the time. But now that a certain awesome someone has kindly set up a Hackers.Town server, I think I'll try to put some of my long-planned ideas into practice.
My main goal was to have a place to gather all my fiction and game-centered work -- both the stories themselves, and insights into the creative process. When the games are ready to share, I'll put them up on itch.io (link on my home page). But as they are going to be free, I'll also have the files available to download here. This is also where I would like to share the fantasy stories I'm writing.
Why not just have a blog? Or share the entire thing on my ko-fi page, instead of just excerpts there? Because there's something about a space that hasn't been thorougly invaded by bots and scrapers, the bored and the bigots. A lot of what I write about, and how I want to explore it, feels like it needs a new non-Euclidean direction to fly. To push myself to shake off old ways, I need to leave the old places, especially the ones colonized by the idea of an entertainment "market".
So we'll see.
I also have huge events coming up in my life for the next year or two, and they are both exciting and the type of challenges that require an open heart. Gemini already feels like a realm in-between private and visible. That's perfect. I like to share about my life, but I'll never be the type that wants to broadcast the genuinely substantial things to a wide audience.
Like, on Mastodon, I might talk about possibly visiting Crete later this year, and I might share photos on Pixelfed. But where am I going to put the deeper stuff, like rambling about ancient masculinities, the minotaur, and swimming topless for the first time as a guy?
If you've read this far, thank you, and I hope you'll think about returning to my little capsule sometime. It's going places.
