I like to refer to this machine as a tank. It's the first laptop I bought, because I needed one for my computer science program. I was aiming for something rugged, to be able to withstand being fold and unfold multiple times a day, being almost thrown in my backpack. I also needed something powerful, to run multiple virtual machines and play games from time to time. My choice ended up on a Thinkpad W520 with an i7 CPU and a Quadro 1000M GPU.
For 4 years, this laptop was opened/closed more than 15 times a day, plugged and unplugged many times, I even used to work during transit in the bus! Right after my studies, I found an internship in Tanzania and I carried the tank with me! I dropped coffee on the laptop and it went on like nothing happened! This computer was equipped with draining canals to evacuate liquids from the keybord and flow under the laptop. There was even ants in the laptop! But still going strong! This laptop still impress me.
Up until recently (October 2022), it was still my main computer. It had issues, however. Despite having changed the battery, when the platform was pulling too much, the system just shutted down. This was a bit restraining since I need to carry my computer for Ansible stuff. So I replaced the tank with a Framework laptop.
