This is the latest PC I've built for myself, to replace my aging AMD Phenom II build.
I waited for the lunch of the Skylake platform before pulling the trigger. I got it like I wanted, a small and portable case, a fully-featured mATX motherboard, completed with an AIO cooler.
Of course I installed Linux on it (Arch linux btw)! And... humm it wasn't great. There was a bug in the CPU and it took a few weeks (or months?) for Intel/Arch to submit a patch. The kernel was crashing all the time, and it seemed random at first. On Archlinux, I had to recompile the Glibc library with elision-lock disabled, otherwise I would not get any GUI. This is the time I learned about the ABS (Arch Build System) so I'M glad I ran into this issue! But still, a brand new computer with a lot of issues, I was stressed that I jumped on this new architecture too quickly. Things are smooth now, this issue is long gone, thankfully!
This PC build is still in use, serving as a gaming console in the living room. It's also the PC we use to drive the VR headset (Oculus). A former collegue once used the term "Wintendo", I think it describes it well. It runs on Windows 11, and nothing personnal is running on this computer. I consider it as an untrusted device. Only the gaming platforms are used on it (Steam, GOG, ...). The temptation of upgrading it with a Ryzen system is great, but the PC still runs great.
