Apple iMac G3 Blueberry

Personal history

This was my first Apple computer that became my main computer. I bought it used from an eBay auction, not really knowing what I was doing, I did bid on it and won! The trouble was, I was naive (and maybe dumb). The computer came from somewhere in the US and I was living in Canada. As you might imagine, import fees and delivery were outrageous.

This machine came with an older version of Mac OS, probably 8 or 9. I didn't bother with it, as I was so impressed by Mac OS X Tiger (10.4) look and feel! All this transparency, animations, those super clean icons and so well designed applications did really made an impression on the young me. I remember spending nights tweaking Windows XP or Ubuntu to make it look and behave like OS X! Anyway, I digress. So I quickly installed Mac OS X Tiger on it, and boy was it slow. Per change I had some SDRAM sticks laying around!

I remember vividly trying to disable Spotlight indexer through Plists thingys or stop magnifying effects on the dock. I have found memories of fidling with this machine, listening to Gary Jules's Trading Snakeoil for Wolftickets, while the snow was falling down. This is the time I learned about old-world and new-world Mac. I also recall how much of a pain it was to make Linux run on that thing! Not even because of the PPC architecture, but more because of it's difficult CRT screen! Xorg configurations had to be done by hand on that device, vs traditional PC where the screen was 'auto-detected'.

Present day

Now I'm seeling this machine, because yes, I still have it! I had to remove one of the RAM stick because it became faulty over time. Is that even possible? I don't know, maybe I swap a stick for another computer and that one was faulty.
