International conflict is not the realm of working people.
At the begging of the year Russia launched an ivasion of it's negboring country ukraine. According to Russia this was to attack the growing "Nazi problem" festering in the country and in retalation to the expansion of NATO into countries that border the former Soviet Union.
I wont cover that because I have already given my opinions on that, but, I will say that Ukraine obviously has totally different justification for its own actions. Regardless of what you think or who you agree with what doesn't seem to make sense to me is the deafining roar of pro-war sentiment.
I remain perturbed; Not even 15 years ago being anti-war was a common stand point in leftist and more liberal circles in the united states. Now, it seems that the concept of being against war all together has been completely memory-holed.
It's really distrubing to me, the fever which self avowed lefitsts will go to bat for the united states empire (or the Russian Federation) with out ever having the thought cross their minds that being against war alltogether is an option as well.
It's not like this is the exception. For nearly 200 years being against war was the rule. After all, it's what got the late great Euguene Debs thrown in prision. His speech about the comonality between working men and the illogical concept of killing eachother over a rich mans war who ultimantly is the benifactor of our deaths was such a radical position in WW1 that it actually got him throw in prision in the united states; land of the free, under the Espeonage act.
A sentiment that I agree so much about I will now echo his words here:
(Full speech can be located @ https://www.marxists.org/archive/debs/works/1918/canton.htm)
"Wars throughout history have been waged for conquest and plunder. In the Middle Ages when the feudal lords who inhabited the castles whose towers may still be seen along the Rhine concluded to enlarge their domains, to increase their power, their prestige and their wealth they declared war upon one another. But they themselves did not go to war any more than the modern feudal lords, the barons of Wall Street go to war. The feudal barons of the Middle Ages, the economic predecessors of the capitalists of our day, declared all wars. And their miserable serfs fought all the battles. The poor, ignorant serfs had been taught to revere their masters; to believe that when their masters declared war upon one another, it was their patriotic duty to fall upon one another and to cut one another’s throats for the profit and glory of the lords and barons who held them in contempt. And that is war in a nutshell. The master class has always declared the wars; the subject class has always fought the battles. The master class has had all to gain and nothing to lose, while the subject class has had nothing to gain and all to lose—especially their lives. "
Debs could put it better than I ever could. My succiently than i ever could. The working class knows no borders and knows no nation. We are all unifed by our struggle and by our common social class. By the fact that we must sell our labor in order to survive. To support one nation over another you are betraying the solidarity that works hold with one another and obfusicating the true point and goal of socialists. LEave the divison and hairsplitting to liberals.
Workers should never fight and kill workers in the name of false national identity and other spooks. Better that we are unified together among our common interest that killing eachother in the names of wars waged by the rich upon the rich for the wealth we ourselves create.
Never support war. We ned to revive the anti-war sentiment in the unitesstates we saw under bush jr.
