I went for a hike with my roommates yesterday (for the first time since moving here, took a little while) to Gross Aubrig, on the basis of 1. it being near Zurich and 2. it being a shorter hike, so more suitable for busy students.
The hike itself was nice, as was the companionship.
Something I've come to appreciate across hikes is being able to drawing connections between regions of the country via peaks.
From Saentis, I can see Pizol, Chaeserrugg, Federispitz, and Gross Aubrig.
From Gross Aubrig, I can see all the above minus Pizol, as well as Pilatus and Chaiserstock.
From Chaiserstock, I can see Pilatus and Hoch Fulen.
From Pilatus, I can see the Jungfrau, Eiger, and Monch.
From the Platthorn, I could see the backside of the Jungfrau.
Every hike extends the spiderweb of mountains I've visited, filling in another gap in my mental map of the country.
