I kept hoping the site would come back up! But it's been dead for more than 10 days now, and I guess I better get used to it... If you are reading this, whoever made this, please, please bring it back!
Dead link:
I enjoy reading the hacker news, often just the comments. With the low overhead of Gemini, I can safely do it on my phone (Lagrange on Android is pretty great!). Dioskouroi.xyz was a great gateway, formatting HN just right. I preferred it to the actual HN site!
There are a few other sites that do it, but not as well:
gemini://jpfox.fr/ham/thehackernews.com/
Only 5 posts, for some reason... If you go up, there are other services, for radio buffs, but also hackaday gateway...
gopher://hngopher.com:70/
This is a gopher gateway, but Lagrange handles gopher very well. I am digging gopher lately. This works pretty well, but it's gopher and the text is preformatted, and sometimes switches between fonts weirdly to indicate thread depth. Works OK.
I miss dioskouroi gateway, because Lagrange in text mode allows you to resize text freely, reflowing it as needed - a feature I require as my eyesight is getting crappy. Gopher pre-formatted text is kind of readable if I turn the phone sideways, but not reflowable and much less convenient.
If you know of another HN gateway, please let me know (stack at ctrl-c.club).
