Announcing ROOPHLOCH 2020 ------------------------- Today is the first day of September, and you all know what that means! Today is the first day of a new Remote Outdoor Off-Grid Phlogging Challenge! ROOPHLOCH 2020 is here! Now, I'll admit, the timing is not fantastic. COVID-19 means that getting outdoors is no longer the simple first step that it was when this idea was formulated last year[1]. Participation will probably be lower on account of this, and that's fine. People who do participate might need to be a little less ambitious than they'd like, and that's fine too. Don't try to ROOPHLOCH if it's not legal for you to do so where you are. Don't try to ROOPHLOCH if you feel it would expose you or others to undue risk, even if it would be legal. Use your head. That said, the rules are otherwise exactly the same as last year. In order to participate in ROOPHLOCH '20, you need to: 1. Make a phlog post, 2. From somewhere other than the place(s) you normally make phlog posts when you aren't participating in ROOPHLOCH, 3. Whilst not inside a permanent human-made structure, 4. Without the *direct* use of permanent infrastructure for power or communication. 5. Email me (solderpunk@posteo.net) informing me of the URL of your ROOPHLOCH post, so I can publish a list of entries for everybody to enjoy. 6. Complete all of the above by midnight, your local time, on September 30th, 2020. ROOPHLOCH is not a competition. ROOPHLOCH is not a race. It's a personal challenge. There will be no prizes awarded for being the first to post, or for making the most remote post, or anything else, and there is no shame in posting from your backyard with ten minutes to spare if that's what you can manage. As per last year, everybody who lets me know about their ROOPHLOC post before the end of the deadline will have their entry listed alphabetical in an official round up. You can check out last year's round up[2] for inspiration if you need it! Good luck, stay safe, have fun and learn something!
